Large Dancing Dragon Koi

Acrylic and silver leaf on stretched canvas. My love of the Japanese koi goes back to my childhood. I've always loved nature. As a toddler, I often stared at an Asian art scroll that hung in my bedroom. It was a perfectly drawn pair of descending koi. After years of my handling, it was damaged beyond repair. My mother had the hardest time convincing me it was time to throw it away. It was a gift from my father, Irby Ahammer, Sr., and was still gorgeous in my eyes! The final painting here is the result of many years of compositional studies and the thoughts floating around in my artistic mind. It's what came out of me when I put away all visual references, pure id.
